October 29th, 2011 - Irene Recovery Video

Wright Construction Company helped many businesses and residences after the flood whether it was fitting them with a temporary home or providing estimates for them to present to insurances and F.E.M.A. On Saturday October 29th, 2011 Wright Construction Company volunteered at the Pingree Residence in Plymouth. A Successful day it was!

Rutland Herald: “Plymouth—Roger and Dorothy “Dot” Pingree of Plymouth endured significant losses when they lost their home to Tropical Storm Irene and flooding caused a lot of damage to their sugarhouse. The Money Brook overflowed during tropical storm Irene and piled up along the Route 100 bridge. The Brook filled with debris, overflowed its banks, filling the Pingree’s sugarhouse with mud, and trapped a 1986 Jeep CJ7 and a 1951 Ford Workmaster “Golden Jubilee” farm tractor inside. Both sustained major damages in the flooding. The Pingree’s are asking Volunteers to bring shovels, trowels and other assorted hand tools… “ Wright Construction from Mount Holly has volunteered to help us clean up part of the farm and remove vehicles that are presently being held hostage. The sugarhouse may need to be removed but it will be a community effort….”

Grateful for the Help featured in the Rutland Herald: “I just wanted to send out my sincere thanks to all of the volunteers who showed up this past Saturday for the Pingree farm cleanup day, you played a crucial role in this cleanup, and a special thank s to Brett Wright and his girlfriend Sandy, and the whole crew from Wright Construction in Mount Holly, who worked tirelessly to free the Jeep and tractor from the sugarhouse and clean up the immediate grounds around the farmhouse and inside the farmhouse. Our family is forever grateful for all your help.—Michelle Pingree, Plymouth”

The Compass: “Volunteers in Plymouth, VT, spent Saturday, Oct. 29 at the farm of Roger and Dorothy Pingree, a couple in their 80’s who lost their home, land, and belongings to Tropical Storm Irene. The scene shows a cleanup effort centered on a 1986 Jeep Renegade, which had been buried in sand and silt inside the bar in the background, which is barely standing with the help of support timbers. Wright Construction Company, Inc. of Mt. Holly donated their time and equipment for the day, and can be seen behind the barn digging to remove a tractor that was also trapped in sediment.

This project was a $1.7 million 6,700 sqft addition to the existing visitor center at the historic Calvin Coolidge Homestead site in Plymouth Notch, VT. The renovation portion of the project was originally designed around a simple renovation of an existing space to accommodate new program needs. Early in the renovation phase it was discovered that the wood structure supporting the exterior stone veneer was in advanced state of decay. This prompted swift and accurate evaluation of the structure from the inside out followed by design and engineering of the remedial action needed. What ensued was a process of totally dismantling the exterior of the building and reconstruction, we likened the process to putting your sock on after you already had your boots on and laced up. As a tourist destination there was no opportunity to delay the opening of the site or use of the building, through strong teamwork from all disciplines we were able to complete what was essentially a project within a project in a timely manner, to the satisfaction of all involved.

The Best Builder Awards are given in an annual competition recognizing significant projects with a focus on special accomplishments, safety, excellence in project management, excellence in client service, the projects contribution to the community and meeting the challenges of a difficult job.

After more than 40 years of working in the construction industry, Brett decided that some form of succession plan was necessary to insure that the company would maintain a strong position within the industry moving forward. Senior Project Manager Carl Lavallee was promoted to Vice President of Operations and has acquired an ownership position. Project Manager Joe Poston was promoted to Senior Project Manager and has also acquired an ownership position. Carl who is 38 and Joe who is 27 have both proven themselves to be skillful project managers focused on successfully moving the company forward. The actual ownership transition is a multi-year plan so Brett is expected to play an active role in company operations for several more years.
